This block is best suited to sheep grazing because of the
terrain having steep slopes. St.
Leonard’s Well, Heifers Marsh, Brewers Marsh and Crutches Motel are the only
fields suitable for cattle. There is the consideration of the ancient monuments
at the top of Mill Farm to be taken into account as cattle may do damage.
The soil on the slopes and at the top is free draining and remains dry in
the winter but is prone to drying out quickly during a dry summer resulting in
reduced grass growth.
Summer stocking rates of between 5 and 6 ewes plus lambs depending upon rainfall is the norm.
